04.19.07 - “Miss GEICO” to Make her Big Water Debut

AMF Offshore’s “Miss GEICO” to Make her Big Water Debut off Miami’s shore., but not before reaching out and making a difference at Baptist Children’s Hospital.

MIAMI, FL  - (April 19, 2007) – This weekend AMF Offshore Racing, the country’s premier powerboat racing team, is set to make a splash of excitement off Miami’s shore in the 17th Annual Miami Super Boat Grand Prix, but, first, they’ll make a difference at Baptist Children’s Hospital. “We are committed to giving our fans a winning performance in every city on our 2007 race tour,” said John Haggin, owner of AMF Offshore Racing. “But, we are equally committed to making a difference in each community by reaching out to children and others who may not otherwise be touched by the excitement of the races.”

Known for its record-breaking speed and fan-friendly atmosphere, the AMF Offshore performance team behind “Miss GEICO” is blazing new trails for the action-packed sport. Forging a connection with the host communities on the 2007 season expands the potential impact racers can have. “Go-fast fans expect a wicked wake, high energy and enthusiasm for fierce competition,” said Marc Granet, “Miss GEICO’s driver and veteran of the sport. “We always come ready to perform that show – but we’re also full of pleasant surprises, like compassion for children and encouragement for those who need it most.”

The same men who will make “Miss GEICO” top speeds of 180 miles-per-hour will work just as hard to make the children of Baptist Children’s Hospital smile and that makes Haggin proud. “At the end of the races, when we look back on what our efforts accomplished in Miami, we’ll be ecstatic about our wins and the strides we make this weekend– both on the water and off.”

A Clash of the Titans

Team Cintron, the piston-powered boat lined up to take on AMF’s  turbine-powered “Miss GEICO” should not take AMF’s compassion for complacence. Their will to win is as sharp as ever and the showdown between the two fastest boats on the water today promises to please. AMF Offshore stands firm behind its bet on its jet-power, the same engines that flew Cobra attack helicopters during the first Gulf War. With good reason, in past seasons when set up against Team Cintron, AMF landed on top. “It’s always about hold-your-breath action when we face off,” Granet said. “You see these two boats on the water – the fastest and finest in the industry – and realize the potential and power of offshore racing. It’s amazing to see.”
